About LEADERSHIP EDUCATION TO ADVANCE DIVERSITY–AFRICAN, BLACK AND CARIBBEAN (LEAD-ABC)

PRIME LEAD-ABC is the first medical school program in the nation designed to specifically develop physician-leaders who will serve the unique health needs of ABC communities. The program was founded in 2019 by Dr. Kaosoluchi Enendu, UCI School of Medicine graduate Class of 2021 with the support of Dr. Carol Major, Assistant Dean for Student Inclusive Excellence and Dr. Khanh-Van Le-Bucklin, Vice Dean for Medical Education.

Vision

To develop the next generation of physician-leaders who are committed to public service, social justice and advocacy within ABC communities.

Mission

To train and support students in medicine as they become medical professionals who will work to reduce healthcare disparities in ABC and other underserved communities.

The Leadership Education to Advance Diversity–African, Black and Caribbean (LEAD-ABC) Program is a University of California, Irvine, School of Medicine mission-based program aimed at producing future physicians who are committed to addressing the health needs of African, Black, and Caribbean communities in California, the United States, and beyond.

Over 15 years ago, the University of California Irvine's School of Medicine developed the Program in Medical Education for the Latino Community (PRIME-LC), a mission-based program designed to train physicians who are uniquely equipped to address the medical needs of under-resourced Latino communities in Orange County. The first program of its kind in the country, PRIME-LC has recruited talented students from disadvantaged backgrounds and gained national accolades for its actionable commitment to diversity and inclusion.
